The Taplin Computers Get Connected Package

Over the course of several years we have become aware of a growing number of services that are being moved away from traditional brick and mortar businesses to online services. You might have noticed this yourself, with high street banks closing, more businesses operating direct to the customer by having an online only presence or even paperwork that you might require for simple things such as renewing a passport.

These are just a few of the headaches that people who are not online have to contend with but I am sure many of you will have noticed this trend happening at pace.

Losing these in person services can affect and disproportionately disadvantage those who are not online and inevitably many of those who are not online tend to be people of retirement age or of poor education.

Whilst we can’t do anything to slow down or stop the surge of services moving online only, what we can do is help to get more people online.

That is why we created the new Taplin Computers Get Connected Service.

The idea was to create a new service that would be welcoming to anyone and everyone of any age or background to be able to get online and reap the benefits of being able to connect with family, friends, public services and other things such as online shopping.

Beyond this, being online can help people in an ever evolving world to discover new services that they may not already be aware of, for instance, making free video calls online to friends or family anywhere in the world, keeping in touch with friends and family using services such as FaceBook, using the computer to play various types of games such as solitaire and even watching TV shows using the BBC iPlayer at a time which suits you rather than being forced to tune in at the time the programme is broadcast.

The service itself can either be purchased as a bundle with a laptop from ourselves or indeed can be purchased as a standalone service should you have an existing machine you wish to use.

The service comprises 3 elements to ease you into the world of computing, please see below for details of the service components.

1 – We include a user guide written and printed in house, this user guide has been written from scratch with no technobabble and in a manner which is readable and understandable by all – even if you have never used a computer before. The manual covers many topics in plain English and acts as a reference for those times when you can’t quite remember which button to press or just need a helping hand.

2 – We include a 12 month subscription to Norton Internet Security. This helps to ensure that you remain safe whilst online from viruses and other nasties making your life online that much simpler and easing any fears or hesitations you may have about using the internet.

3 – We include 3x 30 minute sessions which you can book within 12 months to come to the shop and ask any questions you may need to ask. We will give you honest answers and provide practical help and advice with anything you may need regarding your life online. This is done with your Peace of Mind Passport which you will receive and for every time you visit us for one of your sessions, your passport will get a stamp to say you’ve been in to see us.

These items all come bundled in an A4 plastic wallet for you to keep so that you can always have them to hand when you need them.

We hope that by providing this service we are able to bring as many people online as possible, so if you yourself would like to make use of the service, or if you know of anyone who would benefit from this service, we hope to hear from you soon.
